Location: Tema, Ghana
Reports To: Managing Director / Chief Operations Officer
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: Competitive
Status: Open
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Marine Engineer / Surveyor Consultant who will also assume responsibility for managing our Tema office. This is a dual-role position combining technical surveying/consultancy duties with office leadership and management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct detailed inspections and surveys of vessels — hull, machinery, structural integrity, safety equipment, navigational and electrical systems.
Evaluate vessel condition for maintenance assessment, pre-purchase/insurance surveys, damage assessment, valuation, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports — findings, recommendations, compliance status, valuations or risk assessments.
Liaise with clients (shipowners, insurers, port authorities), coordinate survey schedules, and manage client expectations.
Manage Tema office operations — personnel oversight, resource allocation, administrative tasks, scheduling, correspondence, and daily operations.
Ensure that all surveying and engineering activities meet applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
Collaborate with other company divisions (e.g. safety engineering, risk management, valuation) to deliver integrated services.
Required Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, or a closely related maritime / engineering discipline.
Proven experience as a marine surveyor, marine engineer, or similar role — preferably including hull & machinery surveying, safety inspections, risk assessment, or vessel valuation.
Strong understanding of ship construction, marine systems (machinery, propulsion, electrical, safety equipment), vessel operations, and international/regional maritime safety & compliance standards.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills — capable of identifying defects, evaluating risks, and making reliable recommendations.
Strong report-writing and documentation skills; ability to produce clear, comprehensive technical reports for clients and insurers.
Good communication and interpersonal skills — to liaise with clients, regulators, port authorities, insurers, and internal staff.
Leadership and office management capabilities — able to manage staff, coordinate operations, and ensure smooth running of the Tema office.
Integrity, professionalism, and commitment to safety, compliance, and ethical practices.
Additional / Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience managing an office or team, especially in a maritime or engineering consultancy context.
Experience working with insurance-related vessel surveys, valuations, loss-adjusting or claims assessment.
Familiarity with local Ghana maritime regulations, port authority requirements, and international maritime safety/compliance standards.
Ability to work with diverse stakeholders — shipowners, insurers, port authorities, clients — and manage multiple assignments concurrently.
Willingness to travel, inspect vessels (port calls, shipyards, docks), and work on tight schedules.
Legacy
Committed to excellence in marine engineering services.
